On Tuesday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., summer reading begins. This will be the first day for anyone to sign up for the Ely Public Library’s summer reading programs based on age. Adults and senior high school students (those going into grades 10-12) will have a new Monopoly based program this year. Middle school students (going into grades six to nine) will also play a separate Monopoly based programs. Kids going into elementary grades (entering fifth grade and younger) and preschoolers will have a program based on reading regularly (without tracking time). Middle school and younger programs will end on Friday, Aug. 15. The adult program will wrap up in mid September. Stop by the library for more details. At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, June 5 at 4 p.m. there will be a Jigsaw Puzzle Swap. Bring in those puzzles that you’ve grown tired of playing and swap them for some new-to-you ones instead. Plan to take home puzzles if you bring some in.
At the Ely Public Library on Friday, June 6 at 2 p.m. it’s Hey, It’s a Holiday: National YoYo Day. Learn tips and tricks to make the most out of a great toy with Jessie because it’s National YoYo Day. Find out about yoyos and learn some simple tricks. Please register in advance. Join Sisu Heritage to celebrate the Finnish tradition of sauna on National Sauna Day, Saturday, June 7. The free, family-friendly event is outdoors, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nelimark Homestead and Museum on Hwy. 21 in Embarrass.
There are two workshops coming up for area residents to learn more about lakeshore restoration. One will be at Greenwood Town Hall on Saturday, June 7 from 10-11 a.m. The other will be at the South Kawishiwi River Campground Pavilion on Saturday, June 7 from 2-3 p.m. They will both cover the same material: Everyone cares about their lake, but what can they do to help it? An overview of why shorelines with natural vegetation are important and the benefits they provide. Then a discussion on techniques, tips, and resources for restoring your own shoreline.

Northwoods Partners Caregiver Support Group meets the third Tuesday of the month from 11 a.m. to noon at the Ely Area Community Hub, 760 E. Miners Drive.
