Carena DeBeltz finished at the top of her class, winning valedictorian honors at Ely Memorial High School this year.
The Ely senior was also among the best in Minnesota Class A girls golf, competing this week in the state meet at Becker.
After a difficult opening day, DeBeltz shaved 18 strokes on Wednesday and finished with a 98 over 18 holes.
That allowed her to climb 11 spots and finish 69th overall in the two-day event that was held at the Pebble Creek course in Becker.
DeBeltz carded a 116 on Tuesday, and Wednesday’s 98 gave her a 36-hole total of 214.
The performance closed out a dynamic prep golf career for DeBeltz, one that also included a spot in the state meet in 2024 as part of a Northeast Range/Ely team that took fifth.
Late last month, DeBeltz qualified for state by placing third in Section 7A.
The state’s best Class A golfers converged on Becker this week, with Dawson- Boyd senior Lindsey Lund firing a 152 over two days to win the state individual title.
