Ely places three on all-conference softball team

Two Ely Timberwolves were repeat selections, while another was a first-time honoree to the All-Arrowhead Conference softball team.

Cla re Thomas, Zoe MacKenzie and Peyton Huntington all earned spots on that group, as selected by league coaches.

Each comes from a different class, with Thomas closing out her senior year, MacKenzie in her junior season and Huntington a sophomore for an Ely team that picked up a school-record 17 wins.

Thomas was an anchor in the Ely outfield and a repeat All-Arrowhead honoree.

She started for five years for the Wolves and was a fixture at the top of the lineup, hitting a team-leading .400 this season with 32 hits in 80 at bats.

Thomas also scored 29 runs, had 10 extra-base hits and drove in 22 runs.

Pitching is critical in high school softball and the Wolves have an ace in MacKenzie, who worked a whopping 115 innings while going 14-5 in the circle.

She notched 89 strikeouts and finished with an earned run average of 3.28.

Huntington was Ely’s starting catcher and leadoff hitter.

For the spring, she hit .338 and had an on-base percentage of .449. She collected 25 hits, seven of which went for extra bases.

Huntington also wound up with a team-high 33 runs scored and belted one home run with 15 RBI.
