“In golf, as in life, you have to play through the rain to enjoy the sunshine.” – Gary Player And rain it did on Tuesday, July 15, when 25 Ely and Babbitt women played their annual exchange at the Babbitt Golf Course. The tradition has waxed and waned throughout the years, but this one proved that true grit was displayed by all who stood in the downpour that started just after teeing off on their second hole. True grit, along with good food, a lot of laughs, and a whole lotta fun – not to mention fabulous prizes!
Joni Serena, from Team Babbitt, started the ball rolling (no pun intended) on Hole Two when she ripped the longest drive, but Ely answered this feat by awarding Deb Szutenbach with the longest putt on Hole Five. Finally, this year, the lowest strokes for the evening were recorded by Liisa Lamppa and Pam Maki from the Babbitt Golf Club, scoring a 42. Considering the depth of the accumulated puddles, this was indeed showing a bit of SISU, ladies!
It’s not too late to join the fun on the course in either Ely at 4 p.m. on Mondays or in Babbitt on Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. Women with no or any level of experience welcome!
