Walz invites Canadian travelers to Minnesota

Governor Tim Walz is extending an invitation to Canadians to visit Minnesota, reaffirming the state's long-standing relationship with Canada. Despite Canadian travel to the U.S. facing headwinds in recent months, Minnesota continues to be a top destination for Canadian tourists.

“More than half of Minnesota’s international visitors come from Canada,” said Governor Walz. “We valuethatconnectionandthemany ways our cultures overlap — from hockey to fishing, and from buf falo plaid to a bold winter spirit. We want our Canadian neighbors know they’re not just welcome here — they’re encouraged to visit and continue our long friendship.”

Explore Minnesota, the state’s promotion agency, is continuing its marketing outreach in Canada with ongoing advertising in Winnipeg and Thunder Bay, including broadcast and digital placements.

“Whether you’re looking for a relaxing lakeside getaway, a weekend of tax-free shopping, world-class hockey, or a vibrant cultural experience close to home — Minnesota offers it all,” said Lauren Bennett McGinty, Executive Director of Explore Minnesota. “It’s close, it’s comfortable, and it’s full of the kind of experiences that feel both new and familiar. If you’re a Canadian traveler looking for something special this summer — Minnesota is ready for you!”

With access to world-class outdoor recreation, festivals, and events, Minnesota is a premier tourism destination.
