Curiosity gets served in many ways, times, and places. Forests are studied, managed and experienced during day and night. Life also occurs in lake systems and people experience them in a variety of ways. Often that occurs from the surface.
Area Fisheries Supervisor, Reith Reeves has offered to present the projects, surveys, research and to answer your questions regarding lakes in the area east and west of the Tower Area Office north to the Canadian Border. The Ely Field Naturalists will host Keith at the Vermilion Campus of Minnesota North College on Wednesday, July 30 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
We love our lakes and want to know more about them. The multitude of lakes environments in northeastern Minnesota vary as much as the forests and wetlands. Like parts of the environment, lakes are ecological systems.
Keith can share the importance of learning more about fish and the systems, to implement and make changes to improve management.
Part of his presentation will be regarding research collecting more data on cold water lakes and fish. Some of the Arrowhead Region’s lakes are deeper, colder and have systems that support life including lake trout, cisco, and whitefish. Understanding these natural systems with fish species that are not stocked, becomes even more important through monitoring changes that occur like climate change.
Everyone is welcome to attend this free program in Classroom NR111 at the college.
Park in front of the college and enter the Main Entrance next to the flag poles, and continue following the corridor that goes straight north all the way to the other end.
