Ely woman injured in crash with semi truck

An Ely woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash near Eveleth on Wednesday.

The crash involved a pickup and a semi, and sent the woman, Barb Mathews, to the hospital.

Mathews, 78, was taken to Essentia Virginia Hospital and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to an incident report filed by the Minnesota State Patrol, Mathews was driving a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup when she pulled out onto Highway 53 and was struck by a 2002 Kenworth tractor-trailer that was traveling northbound.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 53 and Anchor Lake Road, at approximately 9 a.m.

The semi was driven by Donald Sazama, 47, of Duluth. He was not injured.
