It’s Parents’ Weekend on the Vermilion campus of Minnesota North College, and most of the school’s athletic teams will be playing at home as a result.
In addition to regular season volleyball and football games, both the baseball and softball teams on campus will host contests as well as part of a full weekend of festivities.
Both the volleyball and football teams are searching for their first wins of the fall and both will have opportunities on Saturday.
The volleyball team hosts Northern Division rival Alexandria at noon, and the program will hold its annual alumni game after the regular contest.
At 3 p.m., the college football team takes the field at Ely School Stadium against M State-Fergus Falls. The Ironhawks are coming off a bye week and looking to bounce back after consecutive defeats to Rochester and Mesabi.
While neither the baseball nor softball teams are “in season,” both have activities as part of Parents’ Weekend.
The baseball team holds its annual alumni game at 12:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field, in a matchup pitting the current Ironhawks against about a dozen former Vermilion baseball players.
The Ironhawks also have a pair of intrasquad scrimmages set for Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field.
Vermilion’s softball team is also in action Sunday, taking on Rainy River in a doubleheader that starts at 11:30 a.m. at the softball field.
The baseball field concession stand will be open for both Saturday’s and Sunday’s events.
