There was a rarity Tuesday afternoon at the Babbitt pool.
After all of the events were completed, Northeast Range/Ely and Duluth Denfeld ended up in a 45-45 tie in a high school girls swimming dual meet.
Senior Via DeBeltz won two individual events for the Nighthawks - both the 200 and 500 yard freestyles - while fellow senior Tuuli Koivisto had a pair of individual runner-up showings.
The meet came down to the final event, and NRE got the tie by winning the 400 freestyle relay.
It was Lindsay Israel teaming with Ivy Ohlhasuer, Raegan Borchert and Lucy Luthens to get the win.
“It was a great meet for the girls,” said NRE Head Coach Cheri De-Beltz. “We are very evenly matched with Duluth Denfeld.”
That was evident with the backand- forth nature of the meet.
Via DeBeltz got the only individual wins for NRE, winning the 200 in 2:18.52 and dominating the 500 on the way to a victory in 6:19.9.
Koivisto was the runner-up in the 200 individual medley in 2:47.02 and also took second in the 100 backstroke (1:15.63).
