Twice in a span of four days, Northeast Range/Ely ventured off to Cloquet.
In addition to a dual meet defeat to the host Lumberjacks on Tuesday, the high school girls swimming team took part in Cloquet’s Lumberjack Logjam this weekend - tying for third among five teams in Saturday’s event.
Host Cloquet and Duluth Denfeld led the way, but the Nighthawks tied Superior and beat Stella Maris Academy on the day.
Senior Via DeBeltz continued a stellar senior season - winning two events.
DeBeltz cruised to victory in the 500 freestyle - winning comfortably in 6:09.81 - and also pulled out a win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:16.47.
Another senior, Tuuli Koivisto, nearly joined DeBeltz as a firstplace finisher but had to settle for second in the 100 backstroke.
Only two-hundredths of a second separated winner Violet Warden and Koivisto, who finished in 1:12.49.
DeBeltz, Koivisto, Ivy Ohlhauser and Lucy Luthens teamed up to take third in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:22.24, and the same foursome wound up fourth in the 200 medley relay (2:18.11).

Cloquet 104, NRE 60
DeBeltz again was a double-winner, taking both the 200 (2:16.58) and 500 (6:11.28) in dominant fashions.
In the 500, her margin of victory was over 11 seconds.
NRE also picked up a win in the 400 freestyle relay as DeBeltz teamed with Koivisto, Ohlhauser and Luthens to win in 4:22.61.
The lone second-place individual finish was by Koivisto in the 100 backstroke (1:12.14).
