Elyite suffers serious injuries in crash near Tower

An Ely woman suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash Monday near Tower.

According to an incident report filed by the Minnesota State Patrol, Elyite Linda Johnson, 74, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.

Authorities say Johnson was driving a Ford Escape that was hit at the intersection of County Road 77 and Highway 169 by a 2006 Cadillac driven by Jordan Gall, 40, of Blaine.

Gall sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Virginia Essentia Health Hospital.

According to the incident report, Johnson was traveling east on County Road 77 approaching 169, while Gall was traveling south on 169.

Johnson attempted to turn to go north on 169 when Gall’s Cadillac came into contact with the side of the Ford Escape.

Road conditions were dry at the time and alcohol was not a factor. Johnson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and Gall was not.

Other responding agencies included the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Tower Fire, Virginia Fire and LifeLink Helicopter.
