An online post announced the Ely Marathon and Half Marathon may not happen in 2026.
“We are deeply saddened to share that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the 2026 Ely Marathon is on pause until further notice. All preregistrations will be refunded via check this week,” the Facebook post read.
“We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to every runner, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who has been part of this incredible journey over the past ten years. The Ely Marathon has always been about more than miles — it’s been about community, adventure, and heart.
“We’ll keep you updated as we navigate next steps. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for running with us.”
This year over 300 people completed either the full or half-marathon races completed as part of the Ely Marathon and Highland Bank Half Marathon, and overall participation was up from 2024.
That was fueled by record turnout for the Friday night Northern Lights Glow Run, which had 418 participants.
Overall, about 1,000 people took part in one of the various marathon events, according to event organizer Wendy Lindsay.
Lindsay is also the owner of the Pebble Spa, which recently announced it would be closing.
