Andrea Zupancich, mother, local business owner, and mayor of Babbitt, has announced her candidacy for Minnesota Senate District 3 as a Republican, setting up a rematch for the seat in 2026.
Zupancich lost to Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown) by 700 votes in 2022.
“The people of Senate District 3 were sold a bill of goods and have been hung out to dry by Metro politicians and our state senator over the last three years,” Zupancich said. “I am running to restore balance in state government and bring forward common sense solutions that make life more affordable for these families.”
“Increased taxes and increased fees are putting pressure on family budgets, and rampant fraud, or as I say stealing, has taken over state programs. Northern Minnesotans want an independent voice to fight for our way of life. We deserve so much more than a Senator who’s become a rubber stamp for the far-left, metro agenda,” Zupancich said.
Zupancich has served her community as a mayor, council member, as a commissioner on the St. Louis County Board of Adjustment and Commissioner on the St. Louis County Planning Commission, a Fight for Mining member, a Mining Minnesota member, and an Up North Jobs board director. She owns a real estate company, and her husband is a fifth-generation small family business owner. They have lived in the district for over 30 years and are proud to have raised their children here.
“I chose to live here well before I was involved in any politics knowing what a great area it is. Throughout my work, I have always stood strong for our way of life and fought for our shared values. I hope to bring my experience in business and local government to St. Paul to ensure Minnesota is the best place to work and raise a family. My campaign is built on honesty and integrity with a singular focus on supporting the good families of the Northland.”
Zupancich has built her livelihood and raised her children in northern Minnesota. She is the owner of z’Up North Realty and has served as mayor of Babbitt for nine years, and on the council for two years. Her husband is a co-owner of Zup’s Food Markets, which has been in business for more than 100 years.
Senate District 3 includes communities in Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake and St. Louis Counties.
