Northwoods Partners will be having its annual meeting on Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m. This meeting is open to the public. Meeting will be held at 760 E Miners Drive.

At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 2:15 p.m. the program will be Hey, It’s a Holiday for International Brain Teaser Month. Give your mind a stretch and solve some tricky puzzles at the library. Join Jessie for clever brain games and some ideas on how to go about solving them. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. the program will be Get Crafty: Under the Sea Stations - geared toward elementary ages but all ages are welcome. Get crafty creating different under the sea creatures using various craft supplies. This will be organized as stations so do as many or as little as you wish. Registration is required.

History Happy Hour will be held Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. at the Boathouse Brewpub & Restaurant and delves into the rich history of the Ely area with pint-sized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. The history of unions and unionizing is long, often contentious and a significant part of the Ely Area’s history. Join host Jess Edberg, executive director of the Dorothy Molter Museum as she scratches the surface of a local history topic, inspiring listeners to take a deeper dive on their own. History Happy Hour is supported in-kind by the Boathouse Brewpub, Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission, the Dorothy Molter Museum, Ely-Winton Historical Society, Boundary Waters Connect and the Ely Folk School. This program is offered as a free, in-person, 30-minute or less presentation October through May, typically on the third Wednesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Boathouse Brewpub & Restaurant.

The Separation of Church and State Group of Ely Indivisible is hosting a free public screening of “Bad Faith,” a documentary, on Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. in the Vermilion Theatre. It offers a history of the rise of religious nationalism and its implications for democracy today in the United States.

Ely Braver Angels invites everyone to a social event with free beverages and pizza at The Boathouse upstairs, 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29. Share your point of view on local and national issues, and hear that of others in a fun, casual gathering that emphasizes respect for all people.
