At the Ely Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. the program will be Curiosity Cohort: Rubik’s Cube – for adults and older teens. Maybe you had one as a kid or perhaps you just borrowed one from someone else … but many people have found the “Rubik’s Cube” harder to solve than to mix the colors randomly. Learn the tricks and moves to solve this puzzle. Please register so there are enough cubes for everyone to follow along.
At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 3:30 p.m. the program will be Dance for all with Sophia McLaughlin. All are welcome to this contemporary dance class. Using improvisation and set dance sequences set to music, the class will focus on moving together to create joyful community. No previous dance training is required as this class will be accessible for everyone; wear comfortable clothes to the workshop. This program is funded in whole or in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (Legacy) monies.
History Happy Hour delves into the rich history of the Ely area with pint-sized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. Black history in the Northland is a subject that has received little attention - until now! Learn about ground-breaking genealogy research being done to discover the forgotten black settlers of Minnesota and historic black and brown residents of the Ely Area’s past. Join host, Jess Edberg, executive director of the Dorothy Molter Museum AND special guest Regan Richardson, a Research Assistant at Anders Genealogical Services as they scratch the surface on this local history topic, inspiring listeners to take a deeper dive on their own. This program is offered as a free, in-person, 30-minute or less presentation on Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. at the Boathouse Brewpub & Restaurant in Ely, Minnesota. History Happy Hour is supported in-kind by the Boathouse Brewpub, Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission, the Dorothy Molter Museum, Ely-Winton Historical Society, Boundary Waters Connect, the Ely Folk School, Ely Echo, Timberjay and Ely Trivia.
At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 19 at noon the program will be Deadly Knits - for adults and teens. Knit-along (or crochet) while listening to and discussing a true crime podcast. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
The February meeting of Ely P.E.O Chapter FD will be held on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Grace Lutheran Church. Social time will start at 12:30 p.m. with the program and business meeting to follow. At the Ely Public Library on Friday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. the program will be Get Crafty: Fingerprint Art - geared for children ages one to give but all ages are welcome. Are you looking for a quick and not-too-messy project for any age? Well, look no further than fingerprint art. Using a little paint, construction paper and markers, you can transform fingerprints into different art projects with lots of engagement and very little time or clean up.
Ely Igloo Snowmobile Club snowmobile safety class will be held at Vermilion College on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Contact Dave Marshall at 218-343-1711. The online class must be competed.
The WolfTrack Classic Sled Dog Race weekend is Feb. 20-22. This will be the 18th running of the race.
The Ely School District will announced the next high school band and choir concert will be on Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. in the Washington Auditorium.
The Ely Film Festival will be held from Wednesday, March 11 through Sunday, March 15.
