Ely dominates All-IRC track list

Ely’s dominant season in track resulted in individual honors for 13 different Timberwolves.

That’s how many Ely high school boys and girls track athletes made the All-Iron Range Conference team, which was announced earlier this spring.

The honors were based on athletes’ performances at the Iron Range Conference track meet held in May, and come after the Ely teams sent eight athletes on to state competition.

Topping the list was dual state champion Violet Udovich. The sophomore sensation made All-IRC in both the 100 and 200 meter dash.

Several other Ely girls standouts were also recognized, with junior Kaylin Visser winning all-conference honors in the discus, and classmate Lydia Shultz in three categories - the high jump, long jump and as part of a four-by-400 meter relay.

State qualifier Isabella Macho made All-IRC in the 300 hurdles, while the fourby- 800 relay team of Macho, Mattie Lindsay, Elsa Ellerbroek and Molly Brophy were also named.

Rounding out the Ely girls selections were the fourby- 400 quartet of Shultz, Addison Forsman, Lindsay and Brophy.

Among the Ely boys, the four-by-400 relay of Wyatt Devine, Otto Devine, Brooks Brenny and Oliver Hohenstein made the list, as did the four-by-800 grouping of Wyatt Devine, Blake Houde, Brenny and Hohenstein.

Individually, Brenny made All-IRC in the 400, with Hohenstein named in the 800 and Houde in the 1,600.
