Early morning on the Echo Trail:
A Hotshot crew from Jackson, MS, arrived Friday at the historic Lodge of Whispering Pines, a 100-year-old remote resort located on Big Lake along the Echo Trail. The crew has been strategically placed at the resort to protect it from fire and provide lodging. The crew has been working to improve the fire perimeter around the lodge by expanding fire breaks and hose systems.
The Beartrap Fire has grown significantly in the past few days and is currently within a mile of the property. Incident command officials stated yesterday that properties with structures, such as the Lodge of Whispering Pines, remain a priority.
