Sen. Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown), Rep. Roger Skraba (R-Ely), and the Ely Chamber of Commerce will discuss the economic impact of northland wildfires on tourism and other industries on Friday, July 24 at 11:30 a.m. at Vermilion Community College.
“The wildfires we’re experiencing are some of the worst we’ve ever seen, and they’re coming at the height of the summer tourism season here in the Northland. As we work to contain and stop these fires, we must work to support our local businesses and workers who are now facing a severe impact to their bottom line,” said Hauschild.
Friday’s roundtable discussion will feature representatives from state agencies, non-profits, and other stakeholders who will examine the economic costs on the region and the resources that could be available for affected businesses and communities.
“People are worried, and they’ve got questions about what help is out there, what next steps are, and how we can address this crisis,” said Skraba. “This discussion is one way for us to come together, hear from the community, and explore what we can do at the state level to help.”
The discussion will be held on Friday, July 24, beginning at 11:30 a.m. It will be held at the Vermilion Community College theater at 1900 E Camp St, Ely, MN 55731.
