Two city council seats are up for election this November 3, along with mayor Andrea Zupancich’s position.
Council member terms run on four year cycles, while mayors serve in two-year increments. Only Jim Lassi and Joe White will hit the ends of their current council terms this fall, with the seats currently held by Duane Lossing and John Fitzpatrick on the ballot for 2028.
Current council member Joe White will run for re-election, accompanied by filings from four other Babbitt residents looking to secure an open seat on the council: Claire High, Jacob Myers, Terrance Switajewski and Shyanne Cersine. As of Wednesday morning, no individual had officially filed for the mayor position opening.
The candidacy filing period opened on July 14 and will extend until July 28 at 5 p.m.
Babbitt residents interested in running for city office may submit an affidavit of candidacy to the city clerk, per Minnesota Secretary of State guidance.
