The annual fall sports meeting at Ely Memorial High School is coming soon, but at a new venue this year.
Registration for Ely’s high school football, girls swimming, boys and girls cross country and volleyball teams will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m., at Washington Auditorium on the school campus.
The meeting is usually held in the school’s gymnasium but will be moved this year, given the fire command center set up in the high school building.
Instead, the auditorium in Ely’s historic elementary school will serve as the location, and students in grades 7-12 planning to participate, as well as their parents, are asked to attend.
Coaches will be on hand to address players and families about first practices, and registration forms will be available to pick up and complete.
Practices for all fall sports are set to begin on Monday, Aug. 17, with season-opening contests slated by the end of the month.
The football, volleyball and cross country programs are based out of Ely, while girls swimming is hosted by Northeast Range school of Babbitt but is open to Ely students.
All participants must have a physical examination on file in order to participate. Once an examination is completed, it is effective for three years.
Parents with questions about whether their child’s examination is up-to-date are asked to contact athletic director Tom Coombe at (218) 235-1025 or Tcoombe@ely. k12.mn.us.
