At least so far, it’s shaping up to be a quiet school board race in Ely.
Filings for three school board seats close Tuesday, and as of Thursday morning, there’s only one candidate in the race.
Derekah Kingery, who has not run for public office in Ely before, is so far the only person to file, as three seats on the six-member board go to the voters in November.
Those are the positions now held by board chair Rochelle Sjoberg, Jen Westlund and Tony Colarich.
Colarich announced in May that he wouldn’t seek a third term on the board, and said at the time he made the announcement early to give people notice and perhaps encourage prospective candidates to run.
Affidavits of Candidacy will be available from the school district clerk, District Office, 600 E. Harvey Street. The filing fee for this office is $2.
The filing period closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 28.
Each board position carries a four-year term.
Earlier this year, candidate filings were completed for Ely’s municipal elections, with mayor Heidi Omerza set to be challenged by council member Emily Roose.
The city council race has six candidates for three seats, with incumbents Al Forsman and Angela Campbell on the ballot with former member Mark Zupec, as well as Abby Dare, Lacey Squier and Josh Brang.
