Reflections Dance Company offers fall dance opportunities for Ely-area youth and adults

As the Ely School District begins its new four-day school week schedule, Northern Lakes Arts Association is partnering with ECR to provide families with new opportunities for dance and creative movement.

Beginning Friday, Sept. 11, Reflections Dance Company (RDC) will offer weekly Dance Sampler classes for youth at the Ely Rec Center. The Friday program is designed to provide students with an engaging afternoon of movement and dance while supporting families adjusting to the district’s new school schedule.

Students in grades two to four can participate in classes featuring creative movement, tap and acro. Classes will be offered from noon to 12:45 p.m. and again from 1-1:45 p.m for K-1 students.

The classes are free for students registered for the full Ely Community Resource Friday program, but the cost is $90 per student for the full session if they are just taking the dance sampler class and are not part of the ECR program.

Regular Ref lections Dance Company fall classes begin Sept. 28, with offerings for dancers of a variety of ages and experience levels.

New this session is Movement Flow, a class designed for participants who want to move expressively to music without worrying about getting on the “right foot.” Classes will feature a gentle warm-up, directed movement and a satisfying warm-down in a welcoming environment.

RDC will also offer a Social Partner Dance Sampler, an eight-class introduction to a variety of ballroom and social dances. No partner is required. The series will include foxtrot and tango; waltz and polka; rumba and cha-cha; and salsa and swing. Participants may attend individual classes or take part in the full series.

For students interested in theater, Theater Dance Prep will combine fun choreography from musicals with basic dance steps and introductory tap. The class is designed to help prepare dancers who may participate in theater productions.

Other fall offerings include acro, ballet, contemporary, jazz, and tap.

The fall schedule provides opportunities for young children, teens and adults, from beginners discovering dance for the first time to experienced dancers looking to strengthen their technique and develop new skills.
