The 32nd annual Harvest Moon Festival, slated for Sept. 11-13 in Whiteside Park. The festival showcases an array of artists and crafters with one-of-a-kind art, pottery, woodcrafts and more. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
At the Ely Public Library on Monday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. the program will be Friends of the Library book club. The book for discussion is The Measure by Nikki Erlick.
The Ely Weaver and Fiber Arts Group will meet on Monday at the Grand Ely Lodge on Monday, Sept. 14, at 11:30 a.m.
Join the Ely Climate Group on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. at the Ely Community Center to hear from Riley Smith representing Ely’s Tree Board talk about the status of Ely’s trees. Their 2026 report on Ely’s urban forest can be found at the bottom of the Ely tree board website. This includes discussion of the impact of the emerald ash borer which will reach us in a few years. This will be available by Zoom, on https://elyminnesota.com/elyclimate/ At the Ely Public Library on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. the program will be Armchair Traveler: Colombia with Dafne Caruso. Do you want to see the world, but your budget or time commitments keep you from going everywhere? This month, Dafne Caruso will talk about life in Colombia. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. the program will be Sand Painting and Rangoli for ages 12 through adult. Learn about Indian culture, history, and celebrations through sand painting and rangoli. Must pre-register.
At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, Sept. 17 at noon the program will be Deadly Knits. Knit-along (or crochet) while listening to and discuss a true crime podcast. Registration not required.
At the Ely Public Library on Friday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. the program will be Naturalist Hour: Birds and Migration. This program will explore bird characteristics, look at examples of common birds in our area, and practice identifying birds and be facilitated by Maggie Hermanson, the naturalist at Bear Head Lake State Park and is in cooperation with the Lake Vermilion – Soudan Underground Mine State Park and Bear Head Lake State Park.
At the Ely Public Library on Friday, Sept. 18 from 4-6 p.m. the program will be State Wide Star Party. Come to a party for the stars and learn more about the night sky with stations exploring everything from the life stages of a star to how different cultures “see” the Ursa Minor constellation. This program is in cooperation with the Bell Museum.
The Opening Mass of the Cause of Canonization for Monsignor Joseph Buh will be on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary in Duluth.Buh was at one time based in Ely and served as a missionary priest who devoted his life to serving the people of northeastern Minnesota, especially Indigenous peoples and immigrant communities.
The next Braver Angels Ely Alliance gathering will be on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the Ely Community Center at 6 p.m. Join in for hors d’oeuvres, dessert and good, friendly conversation. Food for thought and food for you.
