Trout Whisperer - And don’t come back til ya get one

To the newest member, there are quite a few different things you can do at deer camp.

One, for instance, is to actually go hunting for a northern Minnesota whitetail deer, whereby the newly licensed hunter hikes to his stand and sits until he can’t sit anymore, or miracle of miracles a buck walks into view.

Instead of sleeping in every morning, playing cribbage all afternoon, ya know what, I need to catch up on some bird watching, such a nice afternoon, might just take a nap. Fine morning for a little hike, it’s just so nice being back in the woods.

Or my personal favorite is the culinary feat: oh, I can’t hunt today; I’m making my deer camp chili. You know, that takes a good seven to eight hours to pot it up.

And as much as I don’t like that ruse used on myself, I’ve done it with racks of ribs, but I knew the weather the next day was gonna be brutal, so okay, I snickered a day away a time or two.

No one ever minds if you are just gonna be a few hours late getting into your stand when it’s 17 above and the wind is coming straight outta the high Arctic.

But you unselfishly stay back at the cabin all day, sunup until dark, doing all the dishes, hauling extra firewood to fortify us all through the cold night; you’re such a champion of friends.

But just so you know, you’re not fooling me; I’ve used em all long before you were even born.
