A federal wolf trapper is being dispatched to Ely after reports of a wolf approaching a child near the Ely Rec Center.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture sought approval from the city of Ely and the Town of Morse to "remove the wolf in response to a verified human health and safety."
Online reports indicate a child was playing near the Rec Center when the wolf encounter occurred.
"This sick wolf needs to be taken care of before it actually hurts one of our children," said Lindsey Russ in an online post. Russ said her daughter was charged by a wolf.
Jasmine Amundson posted on Facebook that the incident involved her niece, "Yesterday around 5:30, a wolf came running out and charging her at the rec center. It didn't attack but definitely spooked her."
The incident was reported at 5:38 p.m. on Oct. 29.
