With an amount of exerted energy, I envy, everyone else can’t help but notice, this young man is in a hurry to go fishing.
He has dashed from the boat ramp back to his parked truck and trailer many times, I said to my fishing partner for the morning, howmanymoretripsyouthinkhe’llmake before he launches? Don’t know, but I bet he sleeps good tonight, and he reminds me of us way back then. I nodded a yup.
The young man gets in the boat, starts the engine, hits reverse and has left the boat tied to the dock. No harm, no foul, just some more excitement from him. Yet another watcher untied him and said, Now you be careful, them walleyes will wait.
He smiles, waves and roars out of the bay.
Were two behind to launch. The young man was all any of us could chatter about andrememberbeingthatexcited.Oneguy shouts, I hope he remembered to put the plug in his boat. Several of us chuckled, knowing we’d done that a time or two ourselves.
We finally get to launch, I drop the boat in, he motors back away so another can launch while I park the truck. We drop anchor on the lee side of the underwater ridge that on the graph looks like a serpent’s back, such a fishy place. We settle into hopefully jigging up some fish with glowing eyes, and he says, where’s the thermos. I said I thought you brought it. He says, well, that kid can have a laugh on us now.
