After all this recently exposed fraudulent daycare funding that Minnesota taxpayers have footed the bill for, you just want to kick something. And some of what we want to give a good swift kick to is all these supposedly necessary fees the state likes to impose.
Do we really need a DNR sign at every lake, every trail, every path, at taxpayer expense? Some public accesses even have billboards of the rules you must follow. Don’t get us started on trying to enter the BWCA.
You buy a boat, you need to license it, then if you fish out of it, you need another license. The vehicle you tow the boat with, get a license. Buy a snowmobile, get a license. Wanna shoot a deer, get a license, and by the way, the success rate in Minnesota harvesting a whitetail, has been less than 50 percent for many years, meanwhile the state will sell an unlimited number of deer licenses, typically selling over 425,000 per year, at 30 bucks, that’s almost 13 million bucks per annum, and the MN DNR ain’t growing any bucks, or does, or fawns, or refunding any unsuccessful hunters, or allowing hunters or trappers to harvest a wolf, that eats deer.
The DNR budget is over $2 billion per budget cycle. Let that soak in for a second.
Quote from the MN DNR license sales page. “License dollars at work. Hunting and fishing license dollars pay for fish and wildlife management, public land infrastructure maintenance and habitat management that DNR fish and wildlife staff perform across Minnesota.” End quote.
We think at one time that was true. Today however, Minnesotans want some serious accountability, as in “show us where the money goes,” without the political correctness.
Politicians and bureaucrats guiding the resources, instead of sound wildlife management dictating decisions. We offer up the complete mismanagement of wolves in particular. Times are changing. And we hope the MN DNR wises up and makes positive changes to go with them.
If not, come November, keep that in mind when you go to cast your ballot.
