There figures to be a shake-up of sorts coming on the Ely School Board.
Two incumbents, including board chair Rochelle Sjoberg, will not be on the ballot when three board seats go up for grabs in the November general election.
Jen Westlund is the only board member seeking re-election, and she’ll be joined on the ballot by first-time candidates Derekah Kingery, Steve Ornstein, Bailey Belehar, Joe Weise and John Kannas.
A two-week filing period for candidates to file for election closed on Tuesday.
Sjoberg announced Monday, at the end of the monthly board session, that she would not be a candidate.
“I am not going to be running again,” said Sjoberg, who spent more than a decade on the board. “It’s been a very difficult decision. I have enjoyed it - even the tougher times on this board.”
Earlier this year, board member Tony Colarich said he would not seek re-election, and at the time he said he made the announcement to give people notice and perhaps encourage prospective candidates to run.
The top three vote-getters in November will earn four-year terms on the board, and join members Tom Omerza, Erin Moravitz and Hollee Coombe.
Earlier this year, candidate filings were completed for Ely’s municipal elections, with mayor Heidi Omerza set to be challenged by council member Emily Roose.
The city council race has six candidates for three seats, with incumbents Al Forsman and Angela Campbell on the ballot with former member Mark Zupec, as well as Abby Dare, Lacey Squier and Josh Brang.
