Ely girls tune up for section

Ely’s high school girls track team went into the postseason on a high note.

Led in part by some of their youngest athletes, the Timberwovles took third among seven teams at Saturday’s Steve Kerzie Invitatonal.

It was a final tune-up prior to the rain-delayed subsection competition, which was held Thursday after deadline at Aurora, and Ely placed only behind host Rock Ridge and Hibbing.

Eighth-grader Violet Udovich had the Wolves’ only first-place finish at the event, winning the 400 meter dash for a second straight meet and recording a time of 1:01.22.
