Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital picked up four awards earlier this month from the Minnesota Hospital Association.
Five individuals and one of the hospital’s teams were among the winners of 71 various awards announced at a conference this month at St. Paul.
The award-winners were:
• Communicator of the Year - Jodi Martin;
• Retention and Resiliency Award - EBCH Human Resources Team, with Rochelle Sjoberg and Anne Schroeder accepting on the team’s behalf;
• Antibiotic Stewardship Award - Abigail Sirek and Beth Hartshorn;
• Workforce Violence Prevention Award - Tiffany Zemke, John Kannas.
The winners accepted their awards during MHA’s Spring Innovation Forum.
“Health care professionals make an impact on the lives of individuals and the well-being of our communities every day,” said MHA President and CEO Rahul Korane. “We’re grateful for this opportunity to celebrate the talented teams and individuals leading this work.” The ceremony included brief narratives about each award recipient.
As Martin was announced as the communication winner, it was noted that “Jodi is Ely-Bloomenson’s one-person marketing and fundraising dynamo - rebranding the facility, creating marketing toolkits for team leaders, coordinating events and communications, and managing important hospital committees. Jodi’s commitment to Ely-Bloomenson’s mission makes her a perennial standout.”
The hospital’s human resources team was lauded for its efforts, gaining the Retention and Resiliency Award.
“Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital’s HR Team has worked tirelessly to create a culture that values and supports the entire hospital workforce by implementing projects that benefit employees and the communities they serve. A new daycare for the children of their employees, a decompression ‘Zen Room,’ and a cafeteria overhaul are a few successful examples of their commitment to employee satisfaction.”
Sirek and Hartshorn were then saluted for their work.
“Abby and Beth have led initiatives in antimicrobial stewardship, improving patient safety through provider education, evidence-based prescribing, and collaborative practice agreements. Their commitment to excellence is demonstrated through their leadership in antibiotic tracking, stewardship planning, and their upcoming presentations at the 2025 Minnesota Antibiotic Stewardship Conference. ”
Rounding out the Ely award winners were Zemke and Kannas, for their efforts to prevent workplace violence.
“The Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital workplace violence prevention team has set a new standard for safety and preparedness. Through proactive training and strategic collaboration, their efforts are a testament to their commitment, teamwork, and innovation in fostering a culture of security and resilience in health care.”
