Trout Whisperer No, seriously...thank you

Trout Whisperer No, seriously...thank you

Mrs. and I have been going there now 10 years in a row. It’s a one hour drive one way to the lake, we see a doe with a brand-new fawn, hard to believe but already fading marsh marigolds, tamaracks just the opposite, all soft fronded green and fuzzy. Rather customary now, we slept in, we’re after the noonish crappies, not the sunrisers of year’s past, we’ve learned the crappies are there all day, no need to rush to get to them and at the public access, not another boat in site.

We launch, motor up the shore no more than a hundred yards, first cast and every cast after that, a slab crappie, several doubles, the slowest part about the fishing is the time it takes to release them back into the lake and in less than 30 minutes were both limited out. Oh the sheer joy of success, it feels spectacular, and shows one like me, that was a longer winter than I’d previously thought.

In reverse, we tie off the boat tarp head her for home, same one hour drive, suns up were thick in the heat of the day, myriad insects winging now all about the air and road, a guy mowing his lawn waves, we stop he wants to know how we did, we open the ice chest, he is impressed, and we give him enough for he and his wife to enjoy. He is very thankful, and so am I, driving away I’m thinking I’m glad he likes crappies, and that’s six less I have to fillet.
