The Babbitt City Council narrowed in on three clerk-treasurer candidates for second-round interviews. The applicants chosen included Nancy Sanford, Tanner Spawn, and Erik Holmstrom.
“Some of the resumes are pretty impressive,” said mayor Andrea Zupancich.
The council came out of last week’s interviews with five favored candidates. Alongside the three advancing applicants, David Beauclair and Michael Schultz also earned spots on the list.
“I think we have five good choices,” said council member Jim Lassi.
“It’s hard to narrow it down,” added Zupancich.
Zupancich and the three council members in attendance each provided a ranking of their top three contenders. Every candidate received at least one inclusion, but Sanford and Spawn emerged as top picks, with both candidates appearing on all four lists. Zupancich and council member John Fitzpatrick both named Holmstrom as well, boosting him into the final round with the next-highest count.
Final interviews will commence at a special meeting June 30. The top applicant will then receive an offer. The council has yet to finalize a contract, but will settle on salary, compensation for overtime hours and other specifications at the June 30 meeting, following the completion of all interviews.
The city will likely make a motion to hire the new clerk-treasurer either June 30 at the special meeting or at the regular council meeting on Tuesday, July 1.
