The Ely for Ely Annual Workshop: Planning for the Next Generation will kick off a year-long partnership between Extension and Ely for Ely.
The workshop will take place at the Grand Ely Lodge on Thursday, Nov. 6 from noon to 5 p.m.
The program will include a keynote address exploring relevant trends in greater Minnesota, as well as breakout sessions on three topics: 1) business retention and succession planning, 2) community leadership, and 3) transfer of wealth/community legacy.
This kickoff will lead to monthly sessions throughout 2026 that will cover these three tracks in depth on the second Tuesday of the month from 7:30-9 a.m. at various locations around Ely.
The business retention and succession planning track is about strategies for supporting local entrepreneurs to keep capital and jobs in our community in an environment where business succession is more complicated than ever.
The community leadership track will address the need to prepare community leaders to be involved in nonprofits and in government, as well as the call to recruit, mentor, and support the cultivation of new community leaders.
The transfer of wealth and community legacy track will address that an estimated $11.6 billion will be changing hands from generation to generation over the next 40 years. This track will explore strategies for capturing some of this wealth for our communities.
There are just a few spots left for the workshop before it reaches a max capacity of 100 registrants.
