Friends of the Library Book Discussion. The title for discussion this month will be The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. You do not need to be a member of Friends of the Library to attend.
Are you concerned about clean water, energy, iron and steel? All these topic come together at Ely Climate Group’s meeting on Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. at the Ely Community Center. At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m. the program will be Estate Planning with attorney Kelly Klun who discuss key factors to drafting and personalizing wills and trusts, preparing probate documents, creating documents for long term health care, drafting durable power of attorney, and preparing health care directives. They will also discuss tips and strategies to minimize taxes and allow your loved one receive your gifts, stress free.
On Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. w ill b e t he p rogram, “ The Superlative BWCAW” at 8 East Sheridan. It’s an informal presentation on the superlatives of the BWCAW.
November’s History Happy Hour on Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. at the Boathouse will dig into the worldwide tendency for humans to create clubs, groups and teams where they gather socially to build comradery, reach a common goal or simply to feel like they fit in. Social clubs span a variety of themes or activities, and for early Ely Area communities, they provided a taste of home and a sense of belonging. Discover the interesting social clubs of Ely Area’s history and which ones are still going strong. History Happy Hour delves into the rich history of the Ely, Minnesota Area with pint-sized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. Join host Jess Edberg, executive director of the Dorothy Molter Museum as she scratches the surface of a local history topic, inspiring listeners to take a deeper dive on their own. History Happy Hour is supported in-kind by the Boathouse Brewpub, Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission, the Dorothy Molter Museum, Ely-Winton Historical Society, Boundary Waters Connect and the Ely Folk School.
Everyone is welcome to play MahJong at the Ely Community Center on Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.
