On Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. will be the program, “ The Superlative BWCAW” at 8 East Sheridan. It’s an informal presentation on the superlatives of the BWCAW.
At the Ely Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. the program will be Songs of Mesabi by Greg Tiburzi. Inspired by pop radio, the American songbook, rock, and folk and world music, Tiburzi blends guitar and harmonica to back his compositions. Songs of Mesabi is a concert featuring a pastiche of musical styles from the 19th through the 21st-century. Come along on this colorful journey with original tunes paying homage to Tiburzi’s homeland – Minnesota’s Iron Range. This program, sponsored by Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (ACHF). At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m., the program is Hey, It’s a Holiday: National Play Monopoly Day. Is monopoly your game? Try a variety of monopoly editions with Jessie on this silly holiday devoted to the board game that started in 1904 as “The Landlord’s Game.” Registration not required. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
November’s History Happy Hour on Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. at the Boathouse will dig into the worldwide tendency for humans to create clubs, groups and teams where they gather socially to build comradery, reach a common goal or simply to feel like they fit in. Social clubs span a variety of themes or activities, and for early Ely Area communities, they provided a taste of home and a sense of belonging. Discover the interesting social clubs of Ely Area’s history and which ones are still going strong. History Happy Hour delves into the rich history of the Ely, Minnesota Area with pint-sized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. Join host Jess Edberg, executive director of the Dorothy Molter Museum as she scratches the surface of a local history topic, inspiring listeners to take a deeper dive on their own. History Happy Hour is supported in-kind by the Boathouse Brewpub, Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission, the Dorothy Molter Museum, Ely-Winton Historical Society, Boundary Waters Connect and the Ely Folk School. At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 20 at noon the program will be Deadly Knits. Knit-along (or crochet) while we listen to and discuss a true crime podcast. If you have a project you would like to share or work on, bring it along and you can work on it in the company of others! This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
A pancake breakfast, holiday boutique, and blood drive will be held at the Timber Hall Event Center on Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon sponsored by the Embarrass Region Community Association. All you can eat pancakes, a choice of sausage or ham, and coffee and juice before checking out local crafters and bakers at the holiday boutique. Memorial Blood Centers will also be there to accept your lifesaving blood donation. Consider bringing a new toy, warm clothes, or a gift card for Operation Santa, helping families who use the Tower Area Food Shelf. The next Braver Angels gathering is Thursday, Dec. 11 withthe goal of having curious conversations over the holidays, reviewing the roles family members and friends take during discussions and how to have respectful interactions by disagreeing agreeably. This will be held at 6 p.m., Ely Community Center (formerly Senior Center).
