On Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Ely Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Mrs. Claus Party at Grand Ely Lodge. Mrs. Claus warmly welcomes all the local youth to enjoy a morning filled with crafts and fun activities. Santa makes a special appearance and listens to each child’s holiday wishes.
A pancake breakfast, holiday boutique, and blood drive will be held at the Timber Hall Event Center on Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon sponsored by the Embarrass Region Community Association. All you can eat pancakes, a choice of sausage or ham, and coffee and juice before checking out local crafters and bakers at the holiday boutique. Memorial Blood Centers will also be there to accept your lifesaving blood donation. Consider bringing a new toy, warm clothes, or a gift card for Operation Santa, helping families who use the Tower Area Food Shelf. A Kids Christmas Workshop will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Ely on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 1-3:30 p.m. Ideal for preschool through sixth graders to make gifts for 75 cents each for parents, friends, relatives, teachers or someone special. Bring your list. Gifts will be wrapped and labeled with a tag. Adults may wait in the living room for older children that want their gift to be a surprise, or assist little ones. At the Ely Public Library on Monday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. there will be a Friends of the Library Book Discussion. The title for discussion this month James by Percival Everett.
The Ely Ladies of Kaleva Vellamon Tupa #4 will hold a celebration in honor of their 120th anniversary on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Grand Ely Lodge. There will be a short program, exhibits, and music. James “Jimmy” Johnson, Honorary Consul of Finland will be the main speaker. Sally Koski will share brief remarks on the history of the Ely Ladies of Kaleva. Steve Solkela will provide musical entertainment. This event is free and open to the public. Lunch can be purchased on your own from the lunch menu. All are welcome.
The next Braver Angels gathering is Thursday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Ely Community Center with the goal of having curious conversations over the holidays, reviewing the roles family members and friends take during discussions and how to have respectful interactions by disagreeing agreeably.
The Ely Community Center invites all members to a cheerful afternoon of cookies, cocoa, and community on Friday, Dec. 12, from 1-3 p.m. at the Ely Community Center. Enjoy cookies from Starbeam Bakery, warm drinks, and a special holiday gift drawing under the tree. Members are encouraged to bring their favorite holiday treat to share.
The Mesabi Symphony Orchestra presents its Christmas Spectacular with holiday music, sweet treats with hot cocoa, a visit from Santa, and a holiday bake sale. Come in your coziest pajamas or an ugly Christmas sweater to win a prize. Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Rock Ridge Performing Arts Center, 1405 Progress Parkway.
The Ely Memorial High School winter concert will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in Washington Auditorium.
The Washington Elementary winter concert will be held on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 1:15 p.m.
The Ely Community Center is hosting a month of holiday fun, including the holiday lights contest, holiday light bingo, and a community holiday lights celebration on Thursday, Dec. 18, from 5-6 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
The Ely Memorial High School alumni hockey game will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 23 at the Ely Ice Arena.
The Mesabi Symphony Orchestra and Northern Lakes Arts Association present New Year’s Eve - An Evening of Music and Celebration featuring Ian Francis Lah and other local stars of the stage accompanied by the Mesabi Pops Orchestra. The event takes place at Ely’s Historic State Theater, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a lavish reception and cash bar. The music starts at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a champagne toast to ring in 2026. Tickets are $50 and are only available in advance online at www.mesabisymphonyorchestra. org
