At the Ely Public Library on Monday, Jan. 12 at 3 p.m. –

Friends of the Library Book Club. The title for discussion this month is The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife by Anna Johnston. You do not need to be a member of Friends of the Library to attend.

Ely for Ely will hold the first of three gatherings on community leadership on Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 7:30-9 a.m. at the Ely Folk School. Continental breakfast provided. All are welcome - no cost. More information is available at: boundarywatersconnect.org/elyforely?

At the Ely Public Library on Tuesday, Jan. 13 @ 3 p.m. – Movie: The Mighty Ducks – rating PG. Gather your ducks together and celebrate Minnesota’s hockey culture with the original Mighty Ducks movie; it features some great location shots from around the Twin Cities as well. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 3 p.m. the program will be Naturalist Hour: Mammals, Skulls, and Furs. Help solve a nature mystery by examining teeth, skull shapes, and textures of furs. See what they can tell you about the fascinating Minnesotan critters they come from. Join Andrea Doerr from the Lake Vermilion – Soudan Underground Mine State Park to learn all about it. For all ages.

The January meeting of Ely P.E.O., Chapter FD will be held Thursday, Jan. 15, at Grace Lutheran Church. Social hour will start at 12:30 p.m. with the business meeting and program to follow. Visiting members are welcome to attend. Call Katie Kopp-Nelson, 953-250-7599, with any questions.

At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, Jan. 15 at noon – Deadly Knits – for adults and teens. Knit-along (or crochet) and listen to and discuss a true crime podcast. This is a welcoming environment where you can ask questions and share tips. Registration not required. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

Northwoods Partners will be having its annual meeting on Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m. This meeting is open to the public. Meeting will be held at 760 E Miners Drive.

The Separation of Church and State Group of Ely Indivisible is hosting a free public screening of “Bad Faith,” a documentary, on Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. in the Vermilion Theatre. It offers a history of the rise of religious nationalism and its implications for democracy today in the United States.

History Happy Hour will be held Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. delves into the rich history of the Ely, Minnesota Area with pintsized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. The history of unions and unionizing is long, often contentious and a significant part of the Ely Area’s history. Join host Jess Edberg, executive director of the Dorothy Molter Museum as she scratches the surface of a local history topic, inspiring listeners to take a deeper dive on their own.
