The 33rd Ely Winter Festival’s 10 days of celebrating winter runs through Feb. 15 and packs a season’s worth of fun and activities in less than two weeks.
The Integrated Wellness Expo will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tower Civic Center. Sessions start at 10 a.m. Admission is $5.
The Ely Weavers and Fiber Artists Group meets on Monday, Feb. 9, at the Grand Ely at 11:30 a.m. Anyone interested is welcomed.

Friends of the Library Book Club. The title for discussion this month is The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai. You do not need to be a member of Friends of the Library to attend.
At the Ely Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. there will be a showing of the movie The Martian – rating PG13. Watch Matt Damon get creative as an astronaut left behind when his team evacuates the surface of the planet. This movie is based on the novel of the same title by Andy Weir; another of his novels ( Project Hail Mary) will be released to the big screen within the next month. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
The Ely Climate group will discuss “What Can I Do about Climate Change” at 4 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Ely Community Center. This meeting is in person and by Zoom at https://elyminnesota.com/elyclimate/ All are welcome.
At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. the program will be Naturalist Hour: Batty about Bats. Bats are often misunderstood and disliked, possibly because of their portrayal in movies and media. They are actually a very interesting animal with many adaptations and abilities. Remember: “Bats eat bugs; they don’t eat people.” Join Andrea Doerr from the Lake Vermilion – Soudan Underground Mine State Park to learn all about it.
At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. the program will be Library Scientists: Cardiovascular or What’s with a Heart? This is geared to grades K-3. So many people think about hearts as the cute romantic icon that has become popular. But the real heart is much different and this simple heart anatomy lesson will teach kids how different a real heart is and why it’s important. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
History Happy Hour delves into the rich history of the Ely, Minnesota Area with pint-sized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. Black history in the Northland is a subject that has received little attention - until now! Learn about ground-breaking genealogy research being done to discover the forgotten black settlers of Minnesota and historic black and brown residents of the Ely Area’s past. Join host, Jess Edberg, executive director of the Dorothy Molter Museum AND special guest Regan Richardson, a Research Assistant at Anders Genealogical Services as they scratch the surface on this local history topic, inspiring listeners to take a deeper dive on their own. This program is offered as a free, in-person, 30-minute or less presentation on Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. at the Boathouse Brewpub & Restaurant in Ely, Minnesota. History Happy Hour is supported in-kind by the Boathouse Brewpub, Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission, the Dorothy Molter Museum, Ely-Winton Historical Society, Boundary Waters Connect, the Ely Folk School, Ely Echo, Timberjay and Ely Trivia.
Ely Igloo Snowmobile Club snowmobile safety class will be held at Vermilion College on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Contact Dave Marshall at 218-343-1711. The online class must be competed.
The WolfTrack Classic Sled Dog Race weekend is Feb. 20-22. This will be the 18th running of the race.
The Ely School District will announced the next high school band and choir concert will be on Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. in the Washington Auditorium.
Everyone is welcome to play MahJong at the Ely Community Center on Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.
