Boundary Waters Care Center announced executive director Adam Masloski will be leaving after nearly two decades of passion and dedication toward caring for Ely-area older adults.
Masloski ended his time with the community on Friday, Jan. 30 as he and his family relocated.
“We would like to communicate our deep appreciation for Adam and all of the tremendous things he has done for the Boundary Waters Care Center and greater-Ely community,” the Boundary Waters Care Center board chair Roger Pekuri said.
“His profound impact on our residents, families, and team members will be felt for years to come, and we’re excited to build on the high-quality foundation he has laid for us as we continue to provide the best senior living care and services possible. Thank you, Adam,” said Pekuri.
Masloski started his career with Boundary Waters Care Center 18 years ago and worked his way up to executive director.
His commitment to older adults has earned him numerous recognitions, including the 2025 Outstanding Leadership Award from LeadingAge Minnesota, and his leadership helping Boundary Waters Care Center being a 2022 recipient of the Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/ NCAL).
Under his leadership, the community weathered challenging times, now being a five-star Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services community and recently achieving a deficiency-free federal survey.
Masloski’s advocacy both publicly and privately, not just for Boundary Waters Care Center, but for the senior living industry as a whole on a state legislative level is unparalleled.
“Please know that my decision to move on is not because of a lack of love or belief in Boundary Waters Care Center,” Masloski said. “On the contrary, it is because I believe deeply in this community and the people who serve here, and because I believe this step is what is best for my family at this time. Boundary Waters Care Center will always hold a very special place in my heart.”
Masloski will collaborate with assistant executive director Sarah Spate as they build on their years of training together as she leads the community in 2026 and beyond. Spate shares Adam’s deep appreciation for the Ely community, and her multiple years serving Boundary Waters Care Center residents and families will help her hit the ground running.
