At the Ely Public Library on Monday, March 2 @ 1:30 p.m. the program will be Medicare 101 – for adults. Medicare can be complicated, but Minnesota Aging Pathways is here to help. Whether you’ve been on Medicare for a few years and just need a refresher, or you’re brand new to Medicare, Medicare 101 will help you understand the basics so you can manage your health care options. This program is in cooperation with Minnesota Aging Pathways.
At the Ely Public Library on Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m. the program will be Armchair Travel: Bike-packing with Keiko Williams. Do you want to see the world, but your budget or time commitments keep you from going everywhere? Listen to other local people who have had some fantastic trips and experience the world through their eyes. This month, Keiko Williams will talk about some of the adventures that she’s had on bike trips and the ways that you can prepare to make your bike trip a success. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
The Ely Knights of Columbus will hold a fish fry on Friday, March 6 from 5-7 p.m. and on Friday, March 13 from 5-7 p.m. in the basement of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
The Ely School District’s high school band and choir concert will be on Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. in the Washington Auditorium.
The Ely Film Festival will be held from Wednesday, March 11 through Sunday, March 15.
History Happy Hour delves into the rich history of the Ely, Minnesota Area with pint-sized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. Since its inception, cinema and its film-making processes have played a significant role in society. Operating as a dynamic twoway street, film both reflects society and molds it. Ely had several theatrical options but the Ely State Theater became its crown jewel entertaining the community starting in 1936 and continues to do so today. Join host, Jess Edberg, executive director of the Dorothy Molter Museum as she scratches the surface on this local history topic, inspiring listeners to take a deeper dive on their own on March 18 at 5 p.m. at the Boathouse Brewpub & Restaurant. History Happy Hour is supported in-kind by the Boathouse Brewpub, Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission, the Dorothy Molter Museum, Ely-Winton Historical Society, Boundary Waters Connect, the Ely Folk School, Ely Echo, Timberjay and Ely Trivia.
Everyone is welcome to play MahJong at the Ely Community Center on Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.
