An Ely man was charged with four crimes, including one felony, after he allegedly threatened police officers while armed with a pistol.
Jeremy Stanek, 34, was arrested Feb. 22 after a series of events that started with a 911 hangup call, according to the criminal complained filed by the Ely Police Department.
Stanek is charged with a felony count of threats of violence, and a gross misdemeanor count of obstructing the legal process/interfering with a police officer.
He also faces charges of disorderly conduct and carrying a pistol while under the influence of alcohol, both misdemeanors.
The charges stem form an incident that began when officers responded to a 911 hangup call reported on the 600 block of Camp Street on the evening of the incident.
Officers encountered Stanek at his nearby residence, and he allegedly was intoxicated and yelling at police officers.
Later, officers were near Whiteside Park and Stanek approached them, again yelling obscenities and demanding to know why authorities came to his residence.
Officers indicated that Stanek was intoxicated and refused to identify himself, and later threatened to kill officers.
The officers were able to get handcuffs on Stanek, and later observed he had both a pocket knife and a piston in his pants pocket.
Officers also had to forcibly get Stanek into the back of a squad car.
Stanek told officers he would refuse to comply with a warrant requesting a sample of his urine, and while being transported to the jail he reportedly told officers that he would “pound you into the ground” if his handcuffs were removed.
Authorities said Stanek had to be placed in a “cool down” cell at the county jail.
