Friends of the Superior National Forest will be leading a free guided hike at Kawishiwi Falls Trailhead (Fernberg Road) to celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 6. Participants will meet at 3:30 p.m. with an expected return to the trailhead around 4:30 p.m. Led by Jo Swanson, executive director of Friends of the Superior National Forest, participants will have the opportunity to learn about environmental and trail projects happening in the Ely area. The hike will be about a mile long, and participants will be able to go at a pace that is comfortable for them. Learn more about this free event and other upcoming projects across the Superior National Forest by visiting friendssnf.org The “ Open Doors for a Cause” event is a tour of unique and historic properties in Ely on June 6. Over 15 places are included, with inside tours of special places. This event is a joint fundraiser for the Vermilion campus and Well Being Development. Tickets $25, and a historic, homemade lunch is $10. Read more here: https://opendoorsforacause.com/ The Ely Weavers and Fiber Artists will meet on Monday, June 8, at the Grand Ely at 11:30 a.m.

Join the Ely Climate Group on Tuesday, June 9 at 4 p.m. at the Ely Community Center to hear Andrea Strom talk about her sustainability and recycling efforts running BrainStorm Bakery, and Steve Piragis discuss his early work with Energy Efficient Ely and his experiences with solar and heat pumps. This will be available by Zoom, you can find a Zoom link on https://elyminnesota.com/elyclimate/ All are welcome.

At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, June 10 at 4 p.m. the program will be Puzzle Swap for all jigsaw puzzlers. Bring in those puzzles that you’ve grown tired of playing and swap them for some new-to-you ones instead. Please plan to take home puzzles if you bring some in.

At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, June 11 at 11 a.m. the program will be Library Scientists – Nutrition - geared toward third to fourth grades but everyone is welcome. What does food do for our bodies? Learn how to choose what to eat, what happens when you eat and what it does for your body. Please pre-register. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

Veterans on the Lake Resort Ely (VOTL) will be holding a flag ceremony on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14 at 1 p.m. This ceremony is to dedicate VOTL’s recently completed Avenue of Service flags. Public is invited and veterans are encouraged to attend as your service flag will be honored and dedicated. In planning and fundraising for over a year, it took the coordinated efforts of veterans from the Fleet Reserve Association, VFW, American Legion and Veterans of Steel for this project to reach fruition. Light refreshments will be served after the dedication ceremony.

The Unforgettables! the new, all inclusive, dementia friendly choir will have rehearsal dates June 12, 19, 26 and July 3 from 1-2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at 226 East Harvey Street. Supported by Boundary Waters Choral Arts with Mike Rouse directing. Questions can be sent to [email protected] A dedication of the Ely Miners Memorial will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 14 at the Pioneer Mine. This will be the unveiling of a memorial with over 200 names of men who died in Ely mines. Family members of those who perished are being asked to attend and be recognized. The public is invited to attend.

Everyone is welcome to play MahJong at the Ely Community Center on Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.

Bingo every Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Ely Community Center. All are welcome, bring your friends for a fun afternoon.

Cribbage is being played at the Zenith Apartments at 965 E. Camp St in Ely on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Join in, have fun. Bring your own snacks.
