State Rep. Roger Skraba of Ely and his counterpart in St Paul - Hermantown State Sen. Grant Hauschild - have been honored by an organization that represents Minnesota cities.
Both were named Legislators of Distinction by the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities.
Skraba, the Republican lawmaker in his second term in St. Paul, was cited for his leadership on issues important to Greater Minnesota and his advocacy for economic development initiatives, including the Business Development Public Infrastructure program.
The CGMC recognized Hauschild, a Democrat, for his work in securing passage of a bonding bill, which included $3.9 million for the city of Ely’s water line project.
“As the Senator representing the largest, most rural district in the state, I know just how important a bonding bill is to supporting the critical infrastructure needs of smaller, more rural communities,” said Hauschild. “I’m grateful that we put politics aside and passed a bonding bill that put significant resources into critical infrastructure like roads and wastewater that will reduce pressure on local property taxes while ensuring these communities are healthy and strong.”
According to a news release, the award is presented annually to lawmakers who demonstrate outstanding leadership and support for policies that strengthen Greater Minnesota communities and promote economic growth.
“I am honored to receive this recognition from the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities,” said Skraba. “The success of Greater Minnesota depends on strong infrastructure, economic opportunity, and policies that help communities grow and thrive. I will continue working to ensure rural communities have the tools and resources they need to succeed.”
The Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities advocates on behalf of cities across Greater Minnesota, promoting policies that support economic development, infrastructure investment, and vibrant local communities.
Both groups lobby on behalf of cities, including Ely, in St. Paul.
The awards will be presented during the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities’ Legislative Awards Dinner on July 23, in New Ulm as part of the organization’s annual Summer Conference.
