Reflections Dance Company summer dance workshops at Ely Rec Center: Body Percussion/Tap Workshop July 2627 from 6-9 p.m. with UMD instructor Matthew Wagner ($30). Participants will have the opportunity to perform the piece learned during the Reflections Dance Company summer show FIRE! Aug. 14-16. Get some of those wiggles out to the dance beat as Jessie leads kids in simple dances and stretches. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, July 29 at 10 a.m. – Bugs at the Library – for all ages. Join Nature Connect and discover the aquatic insects that live in our Minnesota waters! Participants will have the chance to interact with live insects during this program while they learn all about their life cycles, adaptations, what they can tell us about water quality, and roles in the ecosystem. This program includes live invertebrates in interactive touch tanks. Come prepared to learn, explore, and possibly get a bit wet! This is a Kid’s Stuff program through the Arrowhead Regional Library System.

The next Ely Igloo Snowmobile Club meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 29 at the GEL at 7 p.m.

At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, July 30 at 5 pm – Estate Planning with Kelly Klun – for adults. Attorney Kelly Klun will lead you through key factors to drafting and personalizing wills and trusts, preparing probate documents, creating documents for long term health care, drafting durable power of attorney’s, and preparing health care directives. They will also discuss tips and strategies to minimize taxes and allow your loved one receive your gifts, stress free. This program is in cooperation with the Klun Law Firm.

The public is invited to a public screening of God and Country, a documentary produced by Michele and Rob Reiner that explores the relationship between faith, politics and democracy in the United States on Thursday, July 30, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ely Community Center. Following the film, participants will be invited to engage in a civil discussion grounded in mutual respect, curiosity and a commitment to understanding one another. Hosted by Ely Indivisible.

Final steps are being taken to move Ely’s Prusheck painting to a place of honor at Ely City Hall. The artist was Slovenian born Gregor Perusek, known as Harvey Gregory Prusheck in this country. To commemorate the artist and his work, a free community celebration will be held on Aug. 2 at City Hall from 11 a.m. to noon. For donation info: GiveButter.com/PrusheckPaintingPreservation Ely’s second annual National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 4-8 p.m. at Whiteside Park for an evening of free family fun, community connections and plenty of Northwoods smiles. National Night Out is all about strengthening the connection between law enforcement and the community they proudly serve.

The Lake Vermilion Cultural Center (LVCC) will host “ Ink and Ivory: Stories Told in Duet” performed by Bailey Conger and Marjorie Miller at St. Mary’s Hall in Tower on Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, local artist Linda Smith will instruct a watercolor painting class titled, “ Wine and Watercolor” at the Vermilion Park Inn classroom at 30 Center Street, Soudan. Limited to 20 participants. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased on the LVCC website https://vermilionculturalcenter. org.
