Beginning Aug. 12 the Spiritwood Foundation will once again be launching their Memory Care Tour - live performances for residents living in Senior and Care Facilities.
The Spiritwood ‘Forget Me Not’ Foundation is an Ely-based on-profit organization committed to supporting organizations that enhance the quality of life of those afflicted with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. Pat and Donna Surface started the Spiritwood Foundation when Donna’s father died of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2004. The Foundation raises money through artistic endeavors, and gifts these funds where they are needed.
The Spiritwood Foundation created the Memory Care Tour in 2012. Pat and Donna traveled and performed at assisted-living and memory care facilities, nursing homes, senior living residences and veterans homes - bringing their uplifting music and performance singing to residents, their families, and staff.
Donna said, “The response was always humbling, up-lifting, and heart-warming. Frequently, we will walk into a room filled with near-catatonic people, who immediately become alert when the music starts - smiling and singing along. We called it awakenings.”
The Spiritwood Senior Living Network is now a unique streaming service specifically designed for athome care and caregivers, and for senior living and care communities. Available now at a fraction of the cost of other streaming services, it offers a variety of channels created especially for seniors, with programs designed to engage, entertain, and spark memories. It is non-profit and all subscription proceeds go back out into communities with needs through the Spiritwood Foundation’s gifting.
Among the communities on the current tour are: Park Place in Mountain Iron, Carefree Living in Ely, Diamond Willow in Mt. Iron, Edgewater in Virginia, Carefree Living in Buhl, Vermilion Senior Living in Tower.
