Glow Run 5k will support Ely-area mental health initiatives

The Northern Lights Clubhouse will host a 5k glow run on Friday, Sept. 25 to fundraise for community well-being initiatives.

All of the race fees will support mental health programming in the Ely area.

All paces and abilities are welcome to join, and each participant receives a glowing accessory to wear. Other glowing clothing items are encouraged.

Runners and walkers will launch from the Ely Community Hub at 7 p.m. The route will loop down Washington, up Camp and north on 17th Avenue East before turning back down Miners Drive.

Ten glow zones will be set up along the course, where volunteers will hype up runners with lights and other themed experiences. These will accompany four color splash stations. Racers will pass through non-toxic washable color powder. The finish line will feature a black light photo booth.

Adults pay $30 to register, while the cost for students is $20 and youth participants may join for $10. Registrants may also purchase a limited quantity of shirts on Friday, Sept. 24 at packet pickup.

Prices jump $5 for registrations on race day.

“If price is a barrier for you, please register at the student or youth price, no questions asked,” the Glow Run website states.

Prizes will include awards for the top race finishers, the more creative costumes and the best glow.

The Northern Lights Clubhouse will additionally organize the Glow Fest in advance of the race from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hub.

Food t r ucks, family-friendly activities and live music will be offered.

The Northern Lights Clubhouse’s lists its mission as providing “an inclusive space for people seeking connection and community. Clubhouse especially welcomes those with the mental health challenges posed by limited income, loneliness, neurodivergence or substance abuse recovery.”

The organization is owned by Ely’s Well Being Development (WBD) network.

Beyond the events, Northern Lights Clubhouse also hosts homemade Wednesday lunches, Thursday Coffee Club, meditation sessions, tai chi classes and more.
