Steady progress for the Northeast Range/Ely Nighthawks included the girls swimming team’s first win of the season.
That came Sept. 24 at Chisholm, where NRE pulled out a 46-39 dual meet victory over the host Bluestreaks.
While Chisholm won five of the first seven events, NRE swept the next three - with Raegan Borchert winning the 100 backstroke and Lucy Luthens prevailing in the 100 breaststroke.
Borchert also was part of two winning relays - combining with Luthens, Lindsay Israel and Evelyn Moran to win the 160 medley and forming a winning combination with her sister Jorden, along with Moran and Luthens in the 160 freestyle relay.

A nearly 30-year-old pool record fell Tuesday in Babbitt, as Two Harbors’ Lucy Lane set a blistering pace and won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:39.35, shattering a standard set by former Ely Timberwolf Robbi Palombi in the late-1990s.
Two Harbors won the dual meet 49-39 but NRE had its highlights as well.
Among them was a win by Luthens, who pulled out a victor yin the 100 freestyle in 1:04.02, topping a Two Harbors swimmer by about six-tenths of a second.
