Denfeld splashes past Nighthawks

Times came down further Tuesday but Duluth Denfeld still came up with a dual meet victory over Northeast Range/Ely in high school girls swimming.

Led by Gabby Anderson, who set a pool record in the 500 freestyle and was part of three first-place relays, the host Hunters beat the Nighthawks 104-71 in dual meet action at Duluth’s Lincoln Park School.

The teams split victories in the meet’s first six events, but the Hunters swept the rest to score the convincing win.

NRE’s Lucy Luthens won the 100 freestyle while teammate Evelyn Moran won the 50 freestyle and Lindsay Israel was first in the 100 butterfly.

Israel combined with Ivy Ohlhauser to give NRE a one-two finish.

The event was largely dominated by the Hunters from there, with Anderson cruising in the 500 - winning in 5:28.18 to set the new pool standard.
