The City of Ely would like to thank all those who gave their time and talents to making the July 4th Celebration in Ely a huge success.

Thank you to Jodi Martin, Casey Velcheff, Tara Boerst, Marcia Chambers, Eva Sebesta, Rob Wilmunen, and Tim Riley for helping with the line-up and all the prep for the parade.

Thank you to everyone who put in numerous hours on all the floats, and the kids who decorated bikes, wagons, etc that participated in the parade. Thanks to all the parade participants for continuing to make Ely’s 4th of July parade one of the best.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN: that a Primary Election will be held at 27 South 1st. Avenue, East (the Senior Center) on TUESDAY, August 14, 2018, at which time the polls will be open from the hours of 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Anyone who wishes to vote by ABSENTEE BALLOT can obtain an Absentee Ballot Application by:

CITY OF ELY REQUEST FOR ELECTION JUDGES

The City of Ely is accepting applications for Election Judges for the Primary Election on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 and for the General Election on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

Judges must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of Minnesota for at least 20 days. Election training will be provided prior to the election.

Application forms for an Election Judge can be found on the City website at www.ely.mn.us or at the Clerk’s Office in City Hall, located at 209 E Chapman St., Ely MN 55731. If you have questions, please call our office at 218-226-5449. Applications must be submitted to the Clerk’s Office by Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

ORDINANCE NO. 325, 2nd Series AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ELY, MINNESOTA, AMENDING CHAPTER 20, SECTION 20.2 SALES OF LAND CITY CODE OF THE CITY OF ELY

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELY DOES HEREBY ORDAIN:
SECTION 1. Chapter 20, Section 2, of the City Code of the City of Ely, Minnesota is amended to read as follows:
SEC. 20.2.51. AUTHORIZING SALE OF REAL PROPERTY TO NEGLEY PROPERTIES, LLC. The Council of the City of Ely is hereby authorized to transfer, for the price of Eight Thousand Dollars ($8,000.00) and the Mayor and Clerk-Treasurer are hereby authorized to execute all documents and perform all acts necessary for the transfer to Negley Properties, LLC , subject to terms and conditions of the Development Agreement Between The City of Ely and Rural Living Environments, Inc and Negley Properties, LLC executed on April 17, 2018 and subject to easements of record on the real property legally described as follows:

ORDINANCE NO. 324, 2nd Series AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ELY, MINNESOTA, ADDING TO THE ELY CITY CODE, CHAPTER 10, SECTION 10.48, ENTITLED REGULATION OF CITY TREES AND SHRUBS

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELY DOES HEREBY ORDAIN:

SECTION 1. A new Section shall be added to Chapter 10 as Section 10.48, of the Ely City Code to read as follows:

SEC. 10.48 REGULATION OF CITY TREES AND SHRUBS.

Subd. 1. Definitions. As used in this Section, the following definitions shall apply,

A. “Person” shall mean individual, firm, association or corporation.

B. “Public Right of Way” shall mean any portion of the property reserved for public use and accepted for such use by the City to provide circulation and travel to abutting properties, including but not limited to: streets, boulevards, alleys, and sidewalks.

C. “Public Property” shall mean any area owned by the City of Ely including but not limited to: boulevards, parks, playgrounds, ditches, streets, sidewalks, alleys, and public parking lots.
