CITY OF ELY NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC WATER SERVICE FREEZING

CITY OF ELY
NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
WATER SERVICE FREEZING

The weather conditions we are experiencing this year are conducive to freezing water lines due to low snow conditions. You may want to take precautions to minimize the chance of your water line freezing between the city water main and your home. If your line is not well protected by soil depth or insulation and is susceptible to freezing, you may want to run water to prevent a freeze up.

How much water do I need to run to prevent freezing?
The generally accepted practice is to run a stream of water from a faucet the size of a pencil.

When do I stop running additional water?
The chance of freeze up will be gone when the ice is off the local lakes in the spring.
